One of the Chibok girls that was killnaped by the Boko Haram since 2014 for north east Nigeria, has returned home with two children after seven years of kidnapped by a terrorist group.

Ruth Pogu returned with two children that she gave birth to during the time of her captivity.

Borno State Governor, (Babagana Zulum) , said in statement that he received Ruth and one of the Boko Haram member who willingly surrender.

Since April 2014, Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped over 200 schoolgirls at Government Secondary School in Chibok.

This incident attract global attentions and put Nigeria among the country’s that is battly with serious Insecurity problem.

But seven years later , Ruth along with a man she identified as her husband during her captivity, surrendered themselves s to the Nigerian military on July 28, 2021 in Bama.

Isa Gusau, said a spoke person from the governor office ( Zulum) said the governor of Borno State received the Chibok girl in the Government House in the presence of her parents and they were very happy.

“I am extremely excited and happy the Borno State Governor and the girl father quoted. {from the governor statement!} of all the sons and daughters of this state, and also as a father to a daughters. I know the feeling and pains of families of those still under captivity but we have to remain hopeful especially with today development,” the governor said.

Kidnap of Chibok school girls

girls from a neighbouring communities were sitting for their school exams during that period and unknown gunmen came into the town during night hour they came into the hostels with heavy gunfire, raided the school and took the innocent girls captives.

Originally, they were 276 that got kidnapped by this social terrorist that attacks sparked the global biggest social media campaigns with the use of hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.

One of the girls that escaped told BBC Hausa that! the militant told them that “they are going school then later become a prostitute. Boko [Western education] the haram [forbidden] then what are the purpose of going to school ?”

Some of them managed to escaped shortly after the kidnapped while they later captured free 100 more girls in exchange for Boko Haram militants after negotiations by International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The kidnapped was during the administration of the former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 before President Muhammadu Buhari take over power, and said his government administration will do everything possible to see the freedom and safety of the the Chibok girls.

Despite the effort by the federal government and international bodies to fight insecurity challenges in the country expecially the adaption of the school girls, all has seen aborted. Nigerians still suffer attacks by armed men and unknown terrorist groups all around the country.
